I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up out of a horrible pit ( a pit of tumult and of destruction ), out of the miry clay ( froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.

Congrats on the new job! That is great news indeed!

I keep the law ( of God and man ), and I am wise.
~ Jeremiah 29:7 ( NIV )

I heard an individual during a speech mention sometime back “If you can’t follow rules down here on earth, what makes you think you will follow them in Heaven?” . . . & that made me think, really think
. . . Granted there are many rules we do not agree with, but there are rules that are made for reasons . . . If we don’t understand the rule,
inquire
! Find out & if you still do not agree with them instead of biscuiting & moaning, maybe think of a way to improve that rule & make a suggestion
. . .
What had me thinking about this? My girls
started school yesterday, new year with new & old rules . . .
As walking
around the side of the school building to get where the kids needed to go some other children were running up the sidewalk, the kids I was with ( I walk some other kids to school along with mine ) yelled out to those “No running on school property!
” which got the runners to reply “You can’t tell us what to do!
” . . . “They wouldn’t have to tell you what to do if you followed the rules!” was my instant reply, perhaps
not the appropriate reply, but an immediate one . . .
The school has had some serious problems the last few years with gang members, drugs, people bring their dogs ( pitbulls mostly ) & children going home with individuals they are not suppose to . . . So this year the school is trying something different & it is not going over very well at all! When you are there to pick up a child, instead of the kids coming outside to met with you, you now have to go inside & sign
them out & wait in the “parent lounge” ( which is an extremely
to say the least! It was a bit of an inconvenience
! I could not believe these were adults, parents, guardians, mentors! I leaned up against the wall & watched as I was thinking of possible ways to improve this new rule but it finally got to a point, especially when the major complainers were the ones I had observed over the years breaking other rules, that I could not keep a lock
on my mouth any longer . . . I mentioned that “If people had followed the rules before perhaps the school would not be having to apply a new rule.” Some nodded the nod to shut me up but a majority of them did not take that to well at all, I could tell by the tension in their backs, those were the ones I was directing my statement too & apparently it hit a nerve with them
. . . I also mentioned this was something new & I was sure it would improve over time & I was positive the school would welcome any suggestions on improving the situation . . . You know, I bet if they all had
vegetables
in their pockets I would have looked like a walking salad as I left that small room!
In the evening
at the house
I was going through the stack of papers
for each girl
that I needed to fill out for them to start the new year ( emergency forms, contact info, class room rules/requirements, etc. ) . . . I am far from being a legible writer & the boxes they allot us, I believe they are getting smaller ever year
! So I took a wee break & began to look through the “2008-09 Code of Student Conduct” , honestly I generally do not look through this book for to me it all should be common sense, know what I mean? Example: They have these sections - Arson, Assaults, threats & harassment, Property Crimes, Controlled dangerous substances, Tobacco, Cell Phones and pagers, Weapons, Sex Offenses, Sexual Harassment, Gang Activity, Fighting/Frays, etc. etc. etc. In the Weapon section, they write: “Handguns, rifles, BB guns and shotguns of any type or design are considered weapons as defined by the Board of Education and are forbidden on school property including inside motor vehicles on school property.” My first though upon reading this was . . . .
UH-DUH
. . . Then I felt a bit sadden
that this is apparently not “common sense”, that the schools are needing to have this is writing, parents & children are needing to read this & sign the papers . . . . Am I wrong in thinking this is all messed up
? I think after reading this & how I felt, it just confirmed that it is a good idea for all of us to stay on the right path, don’t stray & to say prayers
that are society improves . . . .
